Issue: not able to access discourse
We have had a couple reports about issues accessing the private areas of our members forum.
This could result in:
- not being able to sign-in via CoSocial Mastodon account
- seeing a 404 when visiting a link shared directly to a post
Reasons (we know of so far)
There are a couple reasons why this might be happening:
-
We haven’t yet added you to the group that grants access to the private areas
When you first log-in, you only see all the content which is publicly available, as we’ve documented there is a delay before you will be granted access to the private areas. -
You have an old or unsupported operating or browser
Discourse as a policy only supports more recent browser versions. (See their announcements and discussions). -
Partial or complete blocking of JavaScript
Discourse requires JavaScript to used the advanced features in the browser, which includes showing private or permissioned forum topics.
First steps troubleshooting
As with other web services, please try the basics:
- It may work to log-out, close the browser, and try to log-in again
- Check if your browser is up to date, if not, update to the latest version
- Check if the issue persists in a different browser
Please tag @coop@cosocial.ca or send us an email for assistance with troubleshooting if the above doesn’t work.
