Mastodon migration to Fedihost - December 17, 2025 - 17:00 to 23:00 UTC

There will be a period of extended downtime for the Mastodon server at https://cosocial.ca while it is migrated to the Fedihost platform on December 17th.

Maintenance is estimated to begin at approximately noon EST and the server will be offline for several hours, with expected completion of maintenance by roughly 5pm EST

More details to follow in advance of the maintenance.

(Good timing: it is the day the packers arrive, to prepare for my move the next day, LOL. A very offline day!)

Q: will you also put this notice in our Mastodon instance “announcements” channel? On my andtoid client, that pops up a notification.

Yup, well broadcast more widely and with more details as the day approaches, I just wanted to get a marker on the calendar for people today.

Here’s the schedule for tomorrow:

  • 2025-12-17T17:00:00Z Maintenance begins

    • We’ll shutdown the server and Victor from Fedihost will begin taking a backup
    • We’ll update https://cosocial.ca to point to Fedihost’s server

  • 2025-12-17T22:00:00Z Maintenance ends

    • The Fedihost system may be up-and-down throughout the maintenance period
    • The maintenance may be complete prior to this point
    • We’ll announce the end of maintenance when it is completed

Update:

Server restore onto the Fedihost platform continues.

It’s difficult to say how much longer the current migration task will take to complete, but we expect that the server will be back online within the next hour at the latest.

You may still notice some missing images for the next while, which should resolve over the next several hours.

Heads up: our search capabilities will be hobbled a bit until the new year.

There were some complications with the import that Victor will resolve in January.

Basic search is functional at the moment.
